It's happened again. A stand-up guy, just trying to do his job, serve his country, and teach kids that the only way they can be sexually safe is to not have sex until they're married, has been caught up in the maelstrom of raw sexuality that is our nation's capitol, and has succumbed. That's right, Republican Representative Mark Souter Resigned on Tuesday after he could no longer deny that that he had been having an affair with a part-time staffer (he was very careful to make it clear, even in his resignation, that the female aide was part-time. Because that's a very important distinction.) He claimed that it was the 'poisonous environment of Washington DC" that lead him astray. So kids, if you're looking for a good time, forget LA, forget Miami, forget Vegas – head to the good old District of Columbia, where the air is so sexually charged even family-republicans can't resist.

A trial in Vancouver ends in further complications for legal and public health initiatives against HIV/AIDS. Justice Lauri Ann Fenion "acquitted an HIV-positive man of aggravated assault for engaging in unprotected receptive anal sex without disclosing his serostatus to his partner," Tim McElreavy reports.

Both Canada and the US "criminalized the non-disclosure of HIV-positive status in situations that carried a 'significant risk' for HIV transmission but without defining 'significant risk.' As a result, HIV-positive individuals have been charged with and prosecuted for a variety of felonies…from aggravated assault to murder. […T]he U.S. [has] charged HIV-positive individuals with a range of crimes, including murder and, most recently, terrorism."

Activists say ambiguous laws "are terrible public health policy because ignorance of one's HIV status is the best legal defense. 'Take the test and risk arrest' is the message many at risk, who need to get tested, will ultimately hear."

Assistant Principal Angela Allen of Crosby Middle School in Kentucky is facing official complaints after telling a 12 year old girl who stood up to homophobic comments about lesbian parents "should simply ignore such comments and grow some thicker skin." The remarks were made by students on her bus, but also from Ronell Mattingly, her bus driver!

The student was then disciplined by being forced to ride in the back of the bus. An open Change.org petition is asking that the bus driver gets reassigned to a new route and that the school apologize. Jordan Palmer of the Kentucky Equality Federation said, "The school certainly is not giving 'an environment that fosters self-discipline and self direction' as stated on their website." Indeed, people have long said that gays shouldn't adopt kids because their kids will be teased. Now they're making sure that happens.
